On January 10th 2016, we lost David Bowie followed a week later by Glenn Frey of the Eagles, from there a horrible trend was set for the rest of the year. We lost several princes in 2016, including Prince, Roland Prince, Prince Be (P.M. Dawn) and Prince Buster; not music related but we also lost Princess Leia. As if the music industry hasn’t mourned enough, legendary performers such as Leonard Cohen, George Michael and Merle Haggard left us as well as Micky Fitz (The Business), Phife Dawg (A Tribe Called Quest), and Sharon Jones.
The list goes on and on, there are literally hundreds in 2016 that were in the music business that died; I have found the most extensive list HERE. Out of all of the musicians that passed in 2016 there was one artist in particular that really choked me up and that would be none other than Erik Petersen (Mischief Brew). Fr.U.N.T. Music even declared “Mischief Week” in August to honor Petersen and I (Rob Smittix) wrote this article as well.
Thank God, 2016 is over may we not suffer this kind of loss for years to come. I wasn’t the first to say it but 2016 was “the Year the Music Died” Good Riddance
