Today you will have the pleasure of hearing Danny Petroni’s The Blue Project’s brand new song called “Run Mindy Run” exclusively premiering right here at For Us Not Them. Run Mindy Run is the title track from the forthcoming 2nd album from the band, which is set for release October 27th of this year.
This song is a narrative based on an Afghanistan Veteran who has returned home and is trying to adjust back into society but also suffers from PTSD. Now lyrics can be interpreted in many ways but I am trying to figure out what happened in this lyrical story. For instance: “Said I killed a man in Arkansas, ain’t hurt a fly since Kabul…” or perhaps “Ain’t much room in a death row cell, run run Mindy run.”
Now, I could’ve reached out to Danny Petroni or his management to ask for the meaning but where’s the fun in that? I enjoy the mystery. What I can’t figure out is if our veteran character is being blamed for something he didn’t do or if he did something and doesn’t remember doing it. Maybe there are other scenarios that I am missing here but whatever the truth is behind the lyrical genius of this song, it is always fun to analyze. What do you think?
Subject matter aside the musicianship of this band is incredible and the delivery of Petroni’s vocals remain incomparable to anyone else I can think of who is still alive. Some call it blues, some call it rock but others have called it a revival and I am going to have to agree with the latter.
