Legend has it that the Mahones formed as a one-show-only band for a St. Patrick’s Day party in 1990, but they had so much fun they decided to quit their days jobs and be Irish punk rockers full time. I also heard that this decision involved a lot of green beer and some leprechauns.
Either way, it was an awesome life choice. The Mahones are, bar none, the best Irish punk band around. They’ve been playing for more than twenty years, honing their musical skills both in the studio and on the road. But where the Mahones really shine is on stage, bringing an amazing amount of energy and joy to their live performances.
They’re currently finishing up a handful of dates and will be back in the studio in April to work on “The Hunger and the Fight (Part Two).”
The Mahones are Finny McConnell (Lead Vocals, Guitar, Mandolin), Dom “The Bomb” Whelan (Drums, Vocals), Katie “Kaboom” McConnell (Accordion, Vocals), Sean Winter (Banjo, Mandolin, Harmonica, Vocals), Michael O’Grady (Tin Whistle), and Jon Kane (Mandolin, Vocals).
