Austin Afropunk rockers BLXPLTN have dropped another single, the incendiary Auf Wiedersehen.
BLXPLTN is a favorite of mine, and they’re one of the musical voices speaking out about the racial injustices that have been unrecognized and unacknowledged by mainstream media for so long.
The song is an damning indictment of the police state we live in, the one that allows Black men, women, and children to be gunned down in the street without consequence.
Haunting and bittersweet, the song reminds us of the realities of living in “post-racial” America.
Funerals everywhere I go
Tell your children not to leave their homes
As the band says:
It is our hope for this song to be an anthem, a rallying cry. It is a tribute to too many lives taken by a police state under the specter of a ‘post-racial’ society, and it is a goodbye to our friends. We wish we didn’t have to write songs like this. Maybe one day we won’t.
